FB_IMG_1569668899026

As it was to come to pass, Fancy Gadam and his Nationals broke onto the national scene a few years ago. It was historic and unprecedented for the Ghana music industry, but for himself and his unbelievable network of fans, it was once again to the norm to showcase their love for a real generational talent.

Fancy Gadam became the New Act of the year 2017. Ghana was not ready. The following year he won plus another award, the Most Popular song of the year. Ghana was not ready yet again. He didn’t not file any category in the 2019 VGMA lest the industry was ready for another grand shock. Ghana will never be ready for this prodigy and his fans.

For many who have missed out on his works, Fancy Gadam is just any another musician from the north who sings in a language they don’t understand. How sad it is that they never listen.

To his fans though, Mujahid Bello, is as phenomenal as any artist that ever recorded music or performed on stage. It is no surprise then that like bees storm flowers just for the nectar, the gadam nationals storm all stages their star will perform just to have a real feel of this genius and be mesmerized once again.

Fancy Gadam is like Michael Jackson when he performed on the Victory tour with the Jackson 5. Fancy Gadam is more like Fela Kuti in his shrine blessing all those who see the flair of his craftsmanship and the spirit of his music. Fancy Gadam is like Sherrif Ghale with his string or even Bob Marley in his element.

The energy and spirit that transcends is remarkable. And for this, the Gadam Nationals will throng the Aliu Mahama Stadium on the 5th of October be in drenched in rain or crushed by storm. Just like the 21st of May, the day will mark again a historic night of music, performances, and a relationship between a singer and his fans.

The Gadam wave is yet to hit its highest levels but until then his fans will continue to show what genius he is as an artist and performer. 5th October is the date. See you there !

WHEN GHANA CHASED NKRUMAH OUT : Reflections of a Young man in Legon

Nkrumah-kwame-800x445

It was a good riddance. The dictator had been finally overthrown and the young country was once again in reset. The powers of a country could not be strangled by the bid on a selfish, self-centered and overly ambitious person. Ghana was a country and not a property to just him. Nkrumah has been overthrown and we have our freedom now – at last!

The history books make account of all the happenings that led to the overthrow of the Nkrumah post-independence regime.

24th of February, 1966, and after the radio announcement, everything went back to normal. Without much resistance, the coup was successful and we could only express joy in breaking from the chains and strain of the corrupt CPP. Nkrumah was over and the nation was liberated.

The moment has forever remained remarkable in the history of this small country. The tales have always been diverse. It was a sad moment for all his admirers till date who cannot wait for his comeback. His foes, for us, we wished we could erase him from every Ghanaian’s memory. We broke his statues and burnt any book with his name. If only we could change the whole of history and fate.

Kwame-Nkrumah-1024x681

History has been taught over and over again. It has been so difficult to grasp the truth of the one story we all share. Today we discuss the effect of this little incidence in February, 1966 in the eyes of a young man who is still confused as to his legacy and his hold on our history and what it meant later when Ghana chased Nkrumah out.

Nkrumah was a dictator. A smart politician who had carved and designed a whole system to his bid. The most powerful person in the country with no reliable restraints. Nkrumah ruled by a constitution and Nkrumah was the constitution. The debate has always remained if his approach to wielding power was the best at the time for a young nation he had just brought from colonial rule and poised for rapid transformation or he was just a delusional leader whose only satisfaction was more power to do his bid, enrich his cohorts, while failing to convince everyone on what he was about. Members of the CPP who once represented the marginalized were getting richer whiles Nkrumah’s grip on power was getting tighter. Whatever else led and motivated his overthrow, it is one thing certain that a dictator was removed finally from the helm of absolute power.

Nkrumah had vision. Ghana just came out of colonial rule and was blessed with a leader who had a vision to rapidly transform this new country into an industrial hub, a haven for its people, and an emblem of the strength and capacity of a black country to direct its own course for development and progress. It was the height of a century, and the rims of power were fast changing via industrialization. World powers were being redefined and Nkrumah saw the opportunity for his small Ghana. These and more inspired a lot of initiatives taken by him that has since never been emulated or matched by an other government in the history of this country. The sad reality is that over 50 years since his overthrow, Ghana has not yet with a leader with such prowess of a defined vision to uplift his people. Nkrumah believed in the black man and was poised to fight to unite all of Africa. Nkrumah dreamt of one Africa that would rise from the ruins of colonization and imperialism to a continent of bliss and prosperity. He worked with such strong spirit until he was cut off.

So for this young man, when Ghana chased out Nkrumah, we did not only stampede and bring to halt a train that would have all countries in Africa on board towards the realization of the African dream, but back home here in Ghana, we got rid of a constitutional dictator and upright vision for progress. In over fifty years since, one of the two – dictatorship came to visit once in a while but it’s counterpart – vision- never came back.
